Frequently asked questions
Does this calculate my actual tax withholding?
No — this is a simplified estimate. Enter a deduction rate that approximates your combined taxes, insurance, and other withholdings as a percentage, and optionally a fixed amount per period. It does not model real tax brackets or any specific country's tax law, since those vary by jurisdiction and change over time.
If I switch the pay period, does my entered amount change?
Yes. For example, if you enter $5,000 as monthly gross pay and switch to annual, it automatically converts to $60,000 — the underlying amount is preserved, not just relabeled.
How is the hourly rate converted to other periods?
The calculator assumes a standard 2,080-hour work year (40 hours per week for 52 weeks) to convert between hourly and the other pay periods.
