Usage examples
Checking a received ZIP's contents without installing anything
Even on a computer with no archive software, open the contents of a ZIP you received by email right in your browser.
Pulling just one file out of a 7z archive
Instead of extracting an entire large 7z archive, pick just the file you need from the list and download it directly.
Opening a password-protected RAR file
Even a password-protected RAR file opens right up once you enter the password, if you know it.
Frequently asked questions
Is my uploaded archive sent to a server?
No. Extraction happens entirely in your browser, and the file is never sent to a server.
Does RAR actually work?
Yes. This uses the libarchive engine ported to WebAssembly to run in the browser, which extracts RAR (v4 and v5) in addition to ZIP and 7z.
How do I know if a file is password-protected?
Opening the file detects this automatically, and a password field appears if one is needed. In the rare case where that can't be determined up front, it just tries listing the files directly.
Does this support archives with a folder structure?
Yes. Folders inside the archive show up as paths in the file list, and clicking 'Extract all' gives you a ZIP that preserves the original folder structure.
Do RAR or 7z files come out as ZIP when downloaded?
Yes. 'Extract all' always bundles the result into a ZIP file regardless of the original format, since that's the most universally openable format on any device.
