Dimensional Weight Calculator
Calculate a shipment's dimensional (volumetric) weight from its size.
Dimensional weight
4.8 kg
Billable weight
4.8 kg
The higher of actual and dimensional weight — what carriers actually bill.
Usage examples
Estimating international express shipping cost upfront
Enter your box dimensions to see whether a carrier like DHL or FedEx will bill you based on dimensional weight, so you can estimate shipping cost before you ship.
Costing out a light but bulky item
Lightweight but bulky items, like foam packaging, can rack up a higher dimensional weight than their actual weight — check this ahead of time to optimize your packaging.
Comparing divisor policies across carriers
Carriers use different divisors (5000, 6000, 139, etc.), so the same box can be billed differently depending on which carrier you use — compare them directly.
Frequently asked questions
Why does dimensional weight matter?
A lightweight but bulky shipment takes up cargo space disproportionate to its actual weight, so carriers bill based on whichever is higher: the actual weight or a weight calculated from the package's volume.
How do I pick the right divisor?
Check your carrier's published policy. International air express commonly uses 5000, some services use 6000, and US domestic shipping often uses 139 (based on inches and pounds). Always defer to your specific carrier's stated value for accuracy.
Is what I enter sent to a server?
No. All calculation happens entirely in your browser, and what you enter is never sent to a server.
Can I calculate multiple boxes at once?
Currently this calculates one box at a time. For multiple boxes, calculate each separately and add up the results.
