Usage examples

Quickly pulling the text out of an old RTF document

Strip all formatting from a .rtf file and view or copy the plain text right away, with no word processor needed.

Pasting RTF content into a different editor

When moving content into a program that doesn't understand RTF, like Notepad or a code editor, convert it to clean plain text first so no formatting codes leak in.

Checking what an email or fax program actually generated

See the real content of an RTF attachment auto-generated by fax or email software, without needing to install anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is my uploaded file sent to a server?

No. Reading and parsing the file happens entirely in your browser and is never sent to a server.

Does it also extract formatting like bold text or colors?

No. This tool strips all formatting and extracts only the plain text content. Bold, italics, colors, and other styling information are not included in the result.

Does it support RTF files with tables or images?

Text inside tables is extracted, but the table's column layout isn't preserved, and images can't be extracted as text so they're left out of the result.

What if special characters or another language show up garbled?

Most RTF files are handled without issue, but in rare cases where an older program used an unusual encoding, some characters may not display correctly.
