Adding a safeguard to a document carried on a USB drive
Worried about losing a USB drive with important paperwork on it? Setting a password beforehand gives you peace of mind.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. Encryption happens entirely in your browser, and the file is never sent to a server.
What happens if I forget the password?
The password isn't stored anywhere, so if you forget it, no one — including us — can recover the file. Keep a copy of it somewhere safe.
What encryption method is used?
AES-256 encryption, the strongest method recommended by the current PDF standard.
Can I set a new password on a PDF that already has one?
No. For an already-protected PDF, remove the existing password first with the password-removal tool, then set a new one.
