Frequently asked questions

Is my color value sent to a server?

No. All calculations happen entirely in your browser, and the color value you enter is never sent to a server.

How is each harmony type calculated?

Your base color is converted to HSL, then rotated around the color wheel — complementary is 180° opposite, analogous is ±30°, and triadic is spaced 120° apart. Monochromatic keeps the same hue and saturation while only varying lightness.

What happens if I enter a very dark or very light color?

The monochromatic palette's lightness values are clamped between 5% and 95%, so if your original color is very close to black or white, a couple of the variations may end up looking similar to each other.
