Frequently asked questions

Is my uploaded PDF sent to a server?

No. Text extraction happens entirely in your browser, and the PDF file is never sent to a server.

Can this extract text from a scanned, image-only PDF?

No. This tool only reads a text layer that's already embedded in the PDF. A scanned PDF with no text layer needs OCR (optical character recognition), which this tool doesn't do.

Can it open a password-protected PDF?

No. Remove the password with a PDF password-removal tool first, then use this one.

Could line breaks or formatting differ from the original?

Yes. PDF is a layout-focused format, so paragraph breaks or table structure might not be preserved perfectly — the plain text content itself is extracted accurately.
