Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Background removal runs an AI model entirely in your browser, and the photo you upload is never sent anywhere. The AI model file itself (neural network weights, unrelated to your photo) is downloaded once from the model provider's servers the first time you use the tool.
Why does the first use take a while?
Because the AI model file that detects backgrounds (tens of MB) needs to be downloaded the first time. It's cached in your browser, so every use after that skips the download and starts processing right away.
What kind of photos work best?
Photos where the subject — a person or product — stands out clearly from the background work best. Results may be rougher around the edges if the subject's colors blend into the background or if there are multiple overlapping subjects.
What format is the result?
It downloads as a PNG file with a transparent background, ready to place on top of any other background.
