Usage examples
Turning an Excel table from a vendor into JSON for code
Convert an XLSX table a vendor sent you into a JSON array your program can read directly.
Tidying up a CSV export into an Excel file
Turn a CSV exported from another service into XLSX, which is easier to share or apply formatting to.
Laying out an API response's JSON as a readable spreadsheet
Turn JSON data shaped as an array of objects into a table, so you can sort and filter it in Excel or Google Sheets.
Frequently asked questions
Is my uploaded file sent to a server?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser, and the file is never sent to a server.
Which sheet of an XLSX file gets converted?
Only the workbook's first sheet is read. If your file has multiple sheets, move the one you want to convert to the first position before uploading.
How do formatted cells like dates or currency come out?
Excel's display formatting isn't applied — a cell may come out as its raw stored value (a date, for instance, as its underlying serial number). Check the result after converting if formatting matters to you.
What JSON structure does this produce?
Each row of the table becomes one object, with column headers as that object's keys — an array like [{"Name": "Alex", "Age": "20"}, ...]. Going the other way, uploaded JSON is recognized whether it's this object-array shape or a plain 2D array with headers in the first row.
Does this handle CSV cells containing commas or line breaks?
Yes. Commas, line breaks, and escaped double quotes ("") inside quoted fields are handled per the standard convention (RFC 4180).
