Compress Image

Reduce file size while keeping the quality you need.

Drag and drop an image, or click to choose one

PNG, JPG, WebP, or anything your browser can display

Usage examples

Fitting an email or messaging attachment limit

Can't send a photo because it's over the attachment size limit? Lowering the quality a bit usually cuts the file size a lot without a noticeable drop in quality.

Speeding up a website's load time

Is an image slowing down your page? Drag the quality slider and watch exactly what percentage smaller the result gets compared to the original, so you can find the sweet spot.

Finding the lightest format for an image

Curious which of PNG, JPG, or WebP works best for a specific image? Switch between formats and compare the resulting file sizes.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Compression happens entirely in your browser, and the image is never sent to a server.

Why isn't there a quality slider for PNG?

PNG is a lossless format, so there's no quality/loss level to adjust. If you want a smaller file, try switching to JPG or WebP instead.

Sometimes the compressed file ends up larger. Why?

Depending on the image content, a particular format/quality combination can be less efficient than the original. Try a different format or a lower quality and compare.

What happens to images with a transparent background?

Since JPG doesn't support transparency, the transparent areas are automatically filled in with white. Choose PNG or WebP if you need to keep transparency.
